Giving Trees, Toy and Coat Drives, and Book Collections
abound in Central Islip School District as administrators, faculty,
staff and students organized collection drives gathering age appropriate
toys and books to be delivered to our youngest
Community members, all in an effort to spread holiday cheer and
happiness. The generosity and humility exhibited by students and staff
in their efforts translated into hundreds of gifts, outerwear, and
books. O'Neill Social Worker Mrs. Melanie Tran noted that
this year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, schools were collecting gift
cards. The O'Neill staff collected monetary donations totaling over
$2,000 which translated to gift cards that were distributed to families.
Mulligan Elementary organized a coat and toy drive-by
coordinated by Ms. Militano and Ms. Blanco. At Mulvey, Kids Just Wanna
Have Fun, under the direction of Bilingual Speech Pathologist Amber
Amature organized a fundraising event on social media asking for
shoeboxes filled with goodies - enough for each Kindergarten
and First Grade classes, as well as a class set of 26 books (Superfudge,
by Judy Blume), which was presented to Ms. Teneiro's very special 4th
Grade Class at Mulligan. At Central Islip High School, under the
direction of social workers Ms. Rios and Ms. Cramer,
gift cards have been collected and distributed to help make the holidays
brighter to local families during the pandemic. The Morrow faculty and
staff provided gift cards and treats to over 20 families in the school
community, and the Cordello faculty and staff
also coordinated a gift card collection which was distributed to help
spread cheer to local families during the holidays. The Central Islip
Board of Education, Administration, Faculty, and Staff wish the entire
Central Islip Community a peaceful and joyous
holiday, and as we prepare to welcome in 2021, they extend wishes for a
safe and happy New Year.
