President's Message

 Board of Education President's Message

May 5, 2021

On behalf of the Board of Education, I want to thank you for your support and partnership as we continue opening schools for in-person classroom instruction. This past year has been a trying time for all of us, and your cooperation as we're opening schools in a manner that is safe and secure for all, is very much appreciated.

On May 18, you will be asked to consider the proposed 2021-2022 School  Budget that the Board of Education unanimously adopted. This is a fiscally responsible Budget which represents a decrease in school property taxes, while maintaining the integrity of the educational program for our students. The new Budget includes existing programs, sports, music and extracurricular activities, and reinstates High School Summer School and the ever-popular Elementary Enrichment Summer School Program. New in the Budget is an Elementary Math Program and a 1 to 1 Chromebook phase-in initiative (one Chromebook per student). The $228,432,084 Budget estimates a reduction in school property taxes for our residents, and reflects an estimated decrease in the tax rate of 0.62%, (a reduction of $4.44 a month or $53.25 less a year for the average homeowner assessed at $40,000). Voting will be held in the Alfano Elementary School Gymnasium on May 18 from 9 a.m. until 9 p.m.

While plans are being made for end of the school year events, please stay connected with your child's principal and teachers, and continue monitoring the School District website and calendar for the latest updates, as well as for the schedule of Board of Education workshops and meetings.

As we continue to promote educational development for all students, the Board of Education and I are confident that together we will accomplish our goals.

Norman A. Wagner, President
Board of Education
