Local Veterans were invited to attend the special event where students, under the direction of their teachers, served the Veterans a full breakfast that included eggs, fried potatoes, sausage, bacon, beverages and a dessert assortment. The Veterans were treated to entertainment as the Mulvey Elementary Fifth Grade Select Chorus, under the direction of Mrs. Strigaro, performed songs of Americana. Special guest, United States Congressman Peter King, offered a keynote message where he thanked the Veterans of our nation's wars and conflicts, then reminded the youngsters and those in attendance that the Veterans are the reason we, as Americans, are able to enjoy the freedoms that we have today. Between serving breakfast, students chatted with the Veterans who were eager to share some of their stories in age-appropriate manners. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Howard M. Koenig and School Board members William G. Softy and Glenn C. Mitchell also attended to offer their thanks to the Veterans. Mulvey Elementary Principal Jessica Iafrate acknowledged Mulvey Fifth Grade Teacher Mrs. Scott for organizing the event which has increased in the numbers of Veterans who have been attending the breakfast annually, and thanked faculty and staff for helping to plan the breakfast. Finally, after thanking the Veterans, Mrs. Iafrate offered a special word of thanks to the students for a job well done. Images in this slide presentation reflect scenes from the Veterans Breakfast.
