The Suffolk County Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission celebrated its Annual Awards Luncheon for 2019 on January 11 at the Radisson Hotel, Hauppauge. This year's honorees included Cordello Elementary School Principal Brenda Jackson and a host of community leaders (Frank Boulton, Robert Brown, Kim De Cristofaro, David Ferguson, Anthony Garcia, Alicia Lawrence, Barry Lites, Veronica Melgar, Renee Ortiz and Timothy D. Sini). Mistress of Ceremonies, Leslie B. Anderson, Esq., introduced the honorees and presented closing remarks. Suffolk County Sheriff Dr. Errol D. Toulon, Jr. delivered the keynote address, and the Central Islip High School Concert Choir, under the direction of Mr. John Anthony, sang selections from their repertoire to guests, who in turn, showed their appreciation by delivering a standing ovation after the Concert Choir's a capella rendition of Handel's Hallelujah Chorus. The New York State Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Commission and Institute for Nonviolence is a public entity which promotes knowledge, involvement, nonviolence, and the "goal" of Dr. King through the elimination of social ills of racism, poverty, militarism and all forms of violence, and the attainment of social justice through nonviolent means. The Central Islip School District Board of Education, Administration, Faculty and Staff congratulate this year's honorees.
